Can ChatGPT Make Videos? What Works for a Product Demo

Klevo · · 5 min read

ChatGPT can be part of making a video, but which kind depends on the tool behind it. For generated footage (a scene that never existed), OpenAI has Sora, its video model; what it offers and on which plans changes often, so check OpenAI’s own help pages. For a video of your own web app working, a generated clip is the wrong tool: it can only imagine your product. Connect ChatGPT to an MCP server like Klevo instead. ChatGPT then clicks through your real app in a browser on Klevo’s servers, and you get back an MP4 with a smooth cursor, zooms and one caption per step.

Why doesn’t a ChatGPT video generator fit a product demo?

You ask a video generator for “a demo of my invoicing app” and get a clean, glowing dashboard. It is not your dashboard. The buttons are invented, the numbers are invented, and the first viewer who signs up sees a different screen.

That gap costs more than a bad clip. A demo exists to show the thing working before anyone has to trust a sentence about it. A made-up screen does the opposite: it is a claim dressed as proof. For a landing page, a launch post or a help article, the video has to be a recording of the product.

So how can ChatGPT make a real video of your app?

ChatGPT supports custom MCP connectors: tools it can call in the chat. Klevo is one. Once it is connected, the flow looks like this:

  1. Connect once. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Connectors, and add a custom MCP server with the URL https://klevo.si/mcp and OAuth (on some plans, developer mode has to be on). The setup guide has every step.
  2. Ask in plain words. “Record a demo of inviting a teammate on https://staging.myapp.com. Desktop, 16:9, with captions.”
  3. ChatGPT drives the browser. It takes one action per step, checks the screenshot, and tries another target when a click misses.
  4. Klevo renders the MP4. The saved steps replay in a fresh browser and come out as a video with the cursor, the zooms on the steps that matter, the captions ChatGPT wrote and intro and outro cards.

Klevo runs no model of its own. ChatGPT decides each click; Klevo records and renders it.

Generated video vs a recorded demo: which do you need?

Generated clip (video model) Recorded demo (ChatGPT + Klevo)
What it shows An imagined scene Your real app, step by step
Good for Mood shots, b-roll, ads with no UI Landing pages, launches, tutorials, changelogs
After a UI change Generate again and hope it matches Render the saved steps again
Accuracy Not guaranteed Exactly what your app did
Formats Depends on the model 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5 from one recording

If you need an atmospheric clip with no product on screen, a video model is the better pick. If the viewer should see your product, record it.

What should you ask ChatGPT to record first?

Pick one flow a new user has to finish to get value: create the first project, connect an integration, send the first invoice. Keep it to 5 to 15 steps; how long should a demo video be explains why steps beat seconds. Write the caption you want for the key steps, or let ChatGPT write them and edit later; captions that explain a demo has examples.

If the app has a login, save it as a secret and name it in the prompt, so the password never sits in the chat: record a demo of an app behind a login.

What are the limits?

  • Klevo opens public URLs only. Staging works, localhost does not. For a desktop app, upload a screen recording and ChatGPT picks the moments to show as prints.
  • No webcam, no live voice. Narration is an AI voice read from the captions, paid with voice credits.
  • No timeline editor: presets (smooth, snappy, minimal), your font and your brand color set the look on Pro.

How much does it cost?

Plan Price What you get
Free $0 3 videos a month, 720p, up to 20 steps, small watermark, 10 voice credits to start
Pro $19 a month or $149 a year 1080p without the watermark, device frames, any Google Font, your brand, up to 120 steps
Ultra $49 a month or $399 a year Everything in Pro, up to 240 steps, more voice credits

Your first Pro or Ultra subscription is free for 14 days, then $19 or $49 a month; cancel before the trial ends and you pay nothing. See the pricing section.

What is the next step?

Create a free account with no card, connect Klevo in ChatGPT, and ask for your onboarding flow. You get the MP4 in the same chat, and the same steps in 9:16 for a story with one more sentence. Want ideas for the flow? See software demo video examples.

FAQ

Can ChatGPT edit a video I already have?

Not with Klevo’s live recording. If you have a screen recording, upload it and ChatGPT picks prints from it to build a clean demo with captions and zooms.

Does it work with Claude too?

Yes. The same connector works in Claude, Cursor and Claude Code: see can Claude make videos.

Will the AI see my customers’ data?

It sees what the page shows. Record with a demo account and blur private fields: demo videos without real customer data.
